Drill Holes in Road King Baffle to Increase Performance?
Do you know of any modifications I can make to my Harley Davidson Road King exhaust that will make it flow a little better and be a little bit louder than it is now? I want the rumble but I don't have the money to spend on a full system right now. I was told that could drill a series of holes in the baffle that would increase torque and increase sound level.
Our Answer
Duane....a LOT of new Harley owners do this and I must admit that I have tried doing it in the past. It sort of works....the bike will get louder depending on the size of the hole you drill in the baffle but I have to say that it doesn't really sound that great.
It sort of makes a chuff chuff sound instead of a lump lump sound if you can follow that highly technical explanation. We would recommend that if you are light on cash to keep the stock mufflers or if you must have the noise then at least put on a pair of inexpensive slip on mufflers. They are cheap and sound great...you can buy Harley Davidson slip ons for a pretty reasonable price.
If you are stuck on drilling holes...then start at 3/4 inch and go up depending on how you like the noise....but again...we do not recommend you do this.

drilling holes will icreasse the sound but will probably decrease performance. You need to buy a set of aftermarket pipes if you are looking for sound and performace.

Dude I wouldn’t mess with it…It’s not going to get much louder 2006 started the year of the O2 sensor and other crap that will stop you from getting loud. Your going to have to deal with it. till Vance and Hines figures out a way to get around the new EPA regulations…..

SE touring muffler; SE air cleaner kit; and either a SE race tuner or a power commander. Whatever you do it all three of the above should be done.
More exhaust out (pipes)
More air in (air cleaner kit)
Then race tuner or power commander to tell the electric brain what do do (remap)
