Santee Harley Drag Pipe Review

santeedragpipes600There are very few pipes on the market that look as good as a killer pair of Santee Drag pipes. A buddy of mine at work recently installed a pair of these Santee drag pipes on his softail and I figured I would share both his and my thoughts in this Harley Pipe Review.

Let me get right to the chase....he loves these pipes.

Drag Pipe Power

The knock on drag pipes is always hearing about how they will lose a tremendous amount of power or be too loud or run hot or whatever the gripe of the month club is from the know it all crowd.   All of this "noise" almost discouraged him to the point of not buying these Santee Drag Pipes but he is fairly stubborn and he's cheap.  He wanted a great looking set of pipes that sounded good and wouldn't break the bank.

Easy choice in my opinion.  Off came the worn out Screaming Eagle Slip Ons and on went the Santee Harley Drag Pipes.  Great choice.

I've ridden his bike a number of times and I have to say I didn't feel any power loss at all with these pipes. If anything it feels stronger but without dynoing the bike you never know for sure. It could have been my enthusiasm from the extra noise but I would say the pipes pulled the same as the slip ons in the midrange and better on the topend.

I think that reality proved to be much different than what the dyno jockeys led him to believe.  These pipes might dyno lower, we don't really know, but the real world "feel" of the bike after the pipes were installed....is great.

So to summarize what we know so far, we have a great looking set of drag pipes, that sound great, show good power and are made in America by an American made company that come with a two year warranty on both material and workmanship.

Sweet.

Santee Drag Pipe Fit

The pipe size varies but they offer 2 1/4'' maximum coverage chrome heat shields that will make sure they stay looking good for years to come. The pipes installed pretty easily and didn't require a whole lot of effort to get installed. We rejetted the carb up slightly to accomodate the extra exhaust flow and overall I'd say the fit and finish was damn good for a set of drag pipes. I've seen some of these that were awful so I was pleasantly surprised.

If you are considering a pair of drag pipes for your bike then I would take a good look at these Santee drag pipes. They are perfect for those of us that are on a budget and can't afford to pop 500-800 bucks on a set of pipes for an already too expensive toy.

You will absolutely love the sound that these Santee drag pipes give off. It just epitomizes Harley Davidson and will not disappoint. As for all the drag pipe "poo pooers" that say you will lose all kinds of power, I couldn't feel it. As I said before I think the pipes were the same in the mid range and picked up power on the top end but without a dyno to optimize, its hard to say.

He bought the pipes for the look and the sound anyways so as long as they didn't lose power then he was a happy camper.
