Harley Tri-Bar LED Taillight Review
I never leave anything alone when I first buy it, especially my Harley Davidson. These bikes look great from the factory showroom but they just beg to be modified and the aftermarket LOVES it.
It never ceases to amaze me how vast the Harley Davidson aftermarket really is. The piece I am reviewing today is the Harley Davidson Tri-Bar LED Tail Light. This LED taillight takes that UGLY stock hunk of red plastic from the back of your bike and replaces it with a very cool smoked tail light that dresses up the rear end of your Harley Davidson quite nicely.
I have a 2007 FXSTB which is the same pretty much as any softail. The only issue I found installing this tail light on my bike is that the 200mm rear tire makes having fat hands a pain in the butt when you try to reach up beside it to remove hardware from the inside of the fender.
If you are considering this light then I have to tell you I highly recommend it. It's way better looking on the bike than it is in the pictures and it looks amazing at night.
The Install
The install of the Harley Davidson Tri-Bar LED Tail Light is very straightforward so don't be intimidated by it at all. You simply remove the strut rails going down the side of the rear fender. I removed all of the rear bolts and left the two front ones on each side loose so that the fender stayed in place yet I could wiggle it around considerably.
As far as replacing the taillight, it is very simple and is nothing more than a matter of unbolting one light and replacing with the next. The instructions are simple and a person of average mechanical ability can complete this job easily.
The wiring splices into the existing wiring. If I recall correctly the kit came with wire taps but they looked really chintzy and I don't know that they would have lasted very well so I cut and soldered my wiring into the existing wiring but it's up to you. Either way probably would work just fine.
The License Plate
The Harley Davidson softail LED Tail light kit comes with a license plate bracket that bolts to the bottom of the LED tail light. You can see it in the pictures above and in my opinion it simply doesn't look so great.
Unless you want to run a side mount license frame then you are left with no option.
I personally chose to run a sidemount as I think it makes the back of the bike MUCH cleaner and I wanted to show off as much of the rear tire as possible.
The bike to the right is my own Nightrain shot from the rear. You can see the cool Harley Davidson Tri-Bar tail light in the picture.
The smoked lens really fits the theme of the bike and in my opinion looks about a zillion times better than the ugly stock Harley Davidson tail light. This upgrade is a no-brainer and the light is perfectly legal as it is DOT approved unlike many other taillights that you can buy for your Harley Davidson.
Conclusion
If you have been considering this Harley Davidson LED Tri-Bar tail light for your own bike then I would definitely recommend it. You can see that unlike most accessory websites I recommend items that I have personal experience with and this light is super cool.
Install is a piece of cake, if you run into any trouble feel free to shoot me a note via my contact page. In the meantime see what is currently available on Ebay. You can usually save money buying there, at least I do.

I agree on the ugliness of the stock tail (on my 08 Custom). Question: I’m interested in the Tri Bar, but how does it work with a rear fender rack? Can it still be used?

Allen…yes according to the HD website –
“Will fit with Bobtail Fender Rack P/N 60161-06 when used with Installation Kit P/N 59320-07.”

That is one cool bike, man. i was wondering where is your rear signal lights ?? If it is an aftermarket item, can you tell me what you use >??

The turn signals are small LED turns that slide on over the rear fender struts. You can’t see em in that picture very well and they are not DOT legal but they clean up the back of the bike nicely. My state does not require DOT turn signals so I use em.
They show up great at night but during the day they’re sketchy. I will try to write a post on the turn signals in the next few days and show some close up pictures.

Hey Sam…thanks for the compliments. I like my bike too. I decided to write a small mini-review of the bars as I actually get asked about them a lot. You can check that out here… http://discountmotorcyclepipes.com/harley-davidson-burly-t-bar-review/
As for the turn signals…they are made by a company called Alloy Art. I looked to see if I could find any on Ebay but none were listed. I bought mine on Ebay but you could get them from any Drag Specialties dealer. They are listed in the Drag catalog still….Alloy Art Fender Strut LED Marker Lights.
They aren’t DOT certified but oh well….not necessary in my state.
