it’s your bike do what you want. i went with the python
2 into 1 awesome sound and performance. stock pipes
suck.

Just keep in mind that what may sound good in town at 35-40 on a bar run one evening might get really old if you decided to ride the 400 miles to a rally in a neighboring state one weekend at highway speeds.

By all means get rid of those stock pipes. If its a EFI , yea ya got to get it”remapped’ and that cost about $350 for the programmer cause with freer flowing exhaust you can end up with too lean a mixture and thats not good for the bike or the exhaust pipes( my friend burnt his up without re adjusting the EFI. Don’t change anything on the bike till its “broke in” and follow the book on how to do thisand follow the maintenance schedule with the 1000 mi service

the short shots are not a bad choice but you will loose some low end grunt.

I would recommend some kind of two into one pipe and a hi-flow air cleaner.

if this is all the modifications you ever plan on doing to the bike then a remap will fix you up just fine.

but if you plan on a big bore kit(103), a bigger boar kit(110), larger cams, head work, or anything else, then get a race tuner, (cheaper in the long run)

I have straight pipes on my 99 fxdx, all I did was put cones inbetween the engine and the pipes. It has never given me problems, and it sounds good. My bike is carburated though.

Watch out any alterations can void your warranty. Only use Screaming Eagle accessories while under warranty, or wait till the warranty is over then do your modifications.

I love my sportster with screamin eagles but anyways it may void your warranty if you alter the pipes so check on that before doing anything.

you need to dyno the bike after changing the pipes but generally for the best performance your better off with the stock one… P.s my teacher at MMI said that no matter how much you dress up a pig .. in the end its still a pig… save your money for more important things like cylinder work and oil leaks..

v&h long shots sound better, look better, and will get slightly louder with age; but not obnoxiously loud. u will need to get a pc3 and have it properly dialed in if u want the best results.

If you are one of those obnoxious blockheads who think everybody in the world needs to hear their bucket of bolts Harley, no, don’t do it.

If you can find an exhaust system that is mellow and deep without rattling everyone’s windows and annoying the hell out of us, then fine. Maybe the thing will run better that way.

If it’s too loud, I hope you get a ticket. If not, congratulations on thinking of others.
